Home to powdery golden sand beaches, turquoise waters, and plenty of aloha, it’s no surprise that Maui is one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world.
Sophie and I have visited Maui as a couple on three separate occasions. There has been plenty of sightseeing during our time, but we also always make an effort to carve out at least one weekend to focus on our relationship and be mindful of the beauty of Hawaii.
We know first-hand how challenging it can be to find the right accommodation, especially for something as special as a honeymoon! There is a lot to consider, and it is important you choose the perfect place for you and your newly betrothed to call home.
In this guide, I feature the 20 best honeymoon hotels in Maui based on a weighted score. To ensure a helpful and non-biased selection, I created a spreadsheet with each hotel’s reviews, location, star rating, and location.

🤔 How to Choose the Best Honeymoon Hotel in Maui

Before you jump straight to the list of the best honeymoon hotels in Maui, it is worth taking a few things into consideration.
While Sophie and I think the Four Seasons Wailea is the best honeymoon hotel in Maui, we understand it is a subjective choice. Only you know the things you covet most from your accommodation!
Consider these factors and how much weight you give to each. This will help ensure you choose the right hotel for you and have the best possible time in Maui.
Location: South Maui vs West Maui

🧭 As in real estate, the first three rules for planning your honeymoon are location, location, location.
🌴 Maui is broken down into six regions. South Maui and West Maui are the two best areas to honeymoon in, with the best weather and beaches.
☀️ Wailea in South Maui is our top choice of areas for honeymooning in Maui. In addition to having the best weather, you’ll find a wide selection of high-end resorts, romantic restaurants, upscale shops, golf courses, and other attractions nearby.
🏖 Ka’anapali in West Maui is the second best area for a romantic getaway. It offers a large a similar selection to Wailea with upscale resorts, shops, golf courses, and 3 miles of white sand and turquoise water. Ka’anapali tends to be slightly cheaper than Wailea, but receives more rain and clouds.
🔎 If you’re still having trouble deciding which area you want to stay in, I recommend reading our complete guide on where to stay on Maui.
Amenities

Would you prefer a large resort or something more intimate? Are you looking for an adults-only hotel? Do you want beachfront accommodation? Is an ocean view essential? Are you planning to dine at your hotel each night?
Many of the larger honeymoon resorts in Maui will offer comparable amenities, including swimming pool(s), onsite restaurants, cultural activities, and spas. However, these typically come with daily resort fees.
It is worth considering which amenities are important to you and your loved one. The more features you want your accommodation to offer, the higher the price tag attached to it. Ocean fronts and square footage tend to have the highest premiums.
Budget
Your personal budget will greatly determine which hotel you choose for your honeymoon. Are you looking to splurge on this once-in-a-lifetime vacation? Or perhaps the wedding already left your pockets a little light?
When looking for your ideal honeymoon accommodation, it is worth keeping in mind that the first price you see does not normally include taxes and resort fees.
These additional taxes can add up quickly and, as of November 2023, usually include a 10.25% state tax, 4.17% city tax, and 3% tourism fee. On top of this, many resorts charge a resort fee, which is typically around $40 per night.
For example, a room that starts at $498 per night becomes $678.69 once all the taxes and resort fees are added.

Does Maui do all-inclusive resorts?
Unlike places such as the Caribbean and Mexico, all-inclusive resorts aren’t common in Hawaii. While there are no all-inclusive resorts in the traditional sense in Maui, many hotels offer various add-on packages to allow you to build your own all-inclusive experience.
However, the islands are incredibly safe, and dining out is a wonderful way to experience Maui.
How do I plan a honeymoon in Maui?
One of the first things to decide when planning a honeymoon in Maui is when to go. The mild tropical weather makes the temperatures comfortable year-round, with daytime highs from 75-85°F (23-29°C). However, there are pros and cons to visiting at different times. For example, during the winter, you can spot migrating whales, but you will also likely experience more rain.
Next, you will need to decide on where to stay. There are plenty of honeymoon hotels in Maui to suit different budgets and preferences.
Once you know when and where you’re going, you’ll need to decide on how to spend your honeymoon on Maui. Do you want a busy Maui itinerary? Or do you just want to relax on the beach with your new spouse?
How many days do you need in Maui?
Most honeymooners will choose to spend at least a week in Maui. This will give you enough time to schedule some lazy beach days, as well as some days to explore the island. Of course, like most vacations, the longer you have, the better!
