Choosing the Best Honeymoon Hotel in Maui
Before you jump straight to the list of the best honeymoon hotels in Maui, it is worth taking a few things into consideration. Only you know what things you value most, and the best for some will not be the best for all!
Consider these factors and how much weight you give to each. This will help ensure you choose the right hotel for you to have the best possible time in Maui.
Location: South Maui vs West Maui
Each region of Maui has its own microclimate and distinguishing features. As in real estate, the first three rules for planning your honeymoon are location, location, location. If you’ve not yet decided which area to choose, then queue up our complete guide on where to stay on Maui.
Maui is broken down into six regions, with South Maui and West Maui being the two most popular. These regions feature the nicest beaches and driest, sunniest weather. Specifically, Wailea in South Maui is the most popular choice for honeymooners in Maui.
In Wailea, you’ll find a wide selection of high-end resorts to choose from. Most of these are beachfront and all offer romantic restaurants, upscale shops, golf courses, and other attractions nearby. Wailea also boasts the calmest waters and best weather on Maui.
Ka’anapali in West Maui is the second most popular area for a romantic getaway. Often called the “Wailea of West Maui”, Ka’anapali too offers a large selection of honeymoon hotels in Maui. It has a similar vibe to Wailea with upscale resorts, shops, golf courses, and 3 miles of white sand and turquoise water.
In 2011, Ka’anapali beach was voted “America’s Best Beach” and is still consistently on the list of the country’s best. It is also slightly cheaper to stay in West Maui than in Wailea. However, this region does receive more rain (24 inches annually vs 15 in Wailea and South Maui).

COMPLETE GUIDE ON WHERE TO STAY ON MAUI
Would you prefer a large resort or something more intimate? Are you looking for an adults-only hotel? Do you want beachfront accommodation? Is an ocean view essential? Are you planning to dine at your hotel each night?
Many of the larger honeymoon resorts in Maui will offer comparable amenities, including swimming pool(s), onsite restaurants, cultural activities, and spas. However, these typically come with daily resort fees.
It is worth considering which amenities are important to you and your loved one. The more features you want your accommodation to offer, the higher the price tag attached to it. Ocean fronts and square footage tend to have the highest premiums.
Your personal budget will greatly determine which hotel you choose for your honeymoon. Are you looking to splurge on this once-in-a-lifetime vacation? Or perhaps the wedding already left your pockets a little light?
When looking for your ideal honeymoon accommodation it is worth keeping in mind that the first price you see does not normally include taxes and resort fees.
These additional taxes can add up quickly and, as of May 2022, usually include a 10.25% state tax, 4.17% city tax, and 3% tourism fee. On top of this, many resorts charge a resort fee which is typically around $40 per night.
For example, a room that starts at $498 per night becomes $678.69 once all the taxes and resort fees are added.

Top 20 Best Honeymoon Hotels in Maui
Below are the top 20 best Maui honeymoon hotels, sorted and ranked based on a combination of location, amenities, service, cost, and reviews.
*Side note – I’m a bit of a nerd and I like numbers. To ensure a helpful and non-biased selection, I created a spreadsheet with each hotel’s reviews, location, star-rating, and location to help form this list. If you’re interested in seeing the metrics used for ranking you can view the spreadsheet here.*
Each of the price ranges listed are average prices based on a one-night stay during 2022 and are given as a rough guide. Expect prices to vary depending on the time of year you visit and the room type you select.
1. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea
The Four Seasons Maui at Wailea is one of the best luxury honeymoon hotels in Maui. With swaying palms and traditional Hawaiian motifs throughout the resort, it is easy to feel the aloha spirit here. And, with their particularly exceptional 5-star service, you can expect to want for nothing while staying here.
They offer a range of rooms and suites to choose from. You have the option for room only, bed and breakfast, or various packages that include resort credits as a kind of “build your own” all-inclusive.
The Four Seasons Wailea boasts three swimming pools with complimentary cabanas, three restaurants, multiple lounges, spa, fitness center, and tennis courts. It is worth nothing that they do not charge any additional resort fees, though their baseline pricing is a bit steeper to begin with.
Added touches of luxury include complimentary traditional lei greetings, nightly hula and torch lighting performances, various daily activities, and car service to all of Wailea.
Whether you choose to make the most of the amenities or simply head to the beach and relax on a chaise lounge beneath an umbrella, you’re guaranteed an unforgettable honeymoon in Maui at the Four Seasons Wailea.
2. Hotel Wailea, Relais & Châteaux

Maui Honeymoon FAQs
Below you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions couples ask when planning their Maui honeymoon.
Is Maui good for a honeymoon?
Absolutely! Hawaii is the most popular honeymoon destination in the world and the island of Maui is the perfect place for a romantic getaway with your new spouse.
Couples can enjoy lounging on pristine beaches, snorkeling with turtles, chasing waterfalls, watching the sunrise over the clouds at Haleakala, attending a traditional luau, and taking on one of Maui’s most scenic drives, the Road to Hana.
Where should couples stay in Maui?
Wailea in South Maui is the most popular place for honeymooners to stay. Here you will find the majority of high-end resorts, shops, and restaurants, in addition to beautiful sandy beaches and typically the best weather on the island.
However, there are many incredible options for honeymoon hotels in Maui depending on your budget, preferred location, required amenities, and travel style.
How much does a Maui honeymoon cost?
The numbers that have been thrown around since 2019 suggest that a couple spends $4,466 on their Hawaii honeymoon and luxury honeymooners spend an average of $9,954. However, we were unable to find an original source for these numbers and prices have increased quite a bit since then.
We estimate the total cost for a one-week honeymoon in Maui to be $6000-$15,000+
The breakdown of prices below helps show how we calculated these costs and what to expect when budgeting for a Maui honeymoon. All the prices are based on two people and, of course, will vary depending on your style of travel and activities.
Does Maui do all-inclusive resorts?
Unlike places such as the Caribbean and Mexico, all-inclusive resorts aren’t common in Hawaii. While there are no all-inclusive resorts in the traditional sense on Maui, many hotels offer various add-on packages to allow you to build your own all-inclusive experience.
However, the islands are incredibly safe, and dining out is a wonderful way to experience Maui.
How do I plan a honeymoon in Maui?
One of the first things to decide when planning a honeymoon in Maui is when to go. The mild tropical weather makes the temperatures comfortable year-round, with daytime highs from 75-85°F (23-29°C). However, there are pros and cons to visiting at different times. For example, during the winter you can spot migrating whales, but you will also likely experience more rain.
Next, you will need to decide on where to stay. There are plenty of honeymoon hotels in Maui to suit different budgets and preferences.
Once you know when and where you’re going, next you’ll need to decide on how to spend your honeymoon on Maui. Do you want a busy Maui itinerary? Or do you just want to relax on the beach with your new spouse?
How many days do you need in Maui?
Most honeymooners will choose to spend at least a week in Maui. This will give you enough time to schedule some lazy beach days, as well as some days to explore the island. Of course, like most vacations, the longer you have the better!
